What is Befriending?
Befriending is a relationship between a volunteer and an individual which is initiated, supported and monitored by a voluntary or statutory agency We often refer to those accessing a befriending service as a “Befriendee” and in turn their volunteer may choose to call themselves a “Befriender”

How can we help?
The aim of befriending is to enhance the quality of an individual’s life by supporting and promoting his/her welfare, personal development and capacity for self- determination. This is done by offering the Befriendee an opportunity to form a trusting relationship, which may enable him/her to develop a greater degree of self confidence and emotional growth
Develop greater capacity to make use of their own personal recourses
Develop greater capacity to form and maintain relationships with others
Our Befriending volunteers visit people in their homes on a regular basis providing emotional and social support. They encourage and motivate people to achieve goals, realise ambitions and enjoy life. We offer our volunteers ongoing support and training to enable them to meet the needs of the people they befriend. This includes regular phone calls from the co-ordinator, volunteer support meetings and also supervision
